Community Speed Watch
Speed Watch Volunteers
Lincolnshire’s Community Speedwatch scheme has been running in the county since 2014 with over 200 parishes in Lincolnshire taking part to date, Gosberton Parish Council being one of them.
The scheme has enabled local communities to tackle their own speeding issues using highly visible ‘passive’ notices and ‘reactive’ speed indicating devices (or SIDs). Both types of speed warning signs can be used within either 30 mph or 40 mph speed limits and are intended to be temporary to avoid driver complacency.
Parish councils are responsible for purchasing their own devices and notices; and rotating them around approved locations within their parish. Typically metal Highways lamp posts are used for both signs and notices. SIDs are mounted and secured onto metal fixing brackets for ease of movement between locations. Passive Notices are attached using simple cable ties.
Speed checks by volunteers
Gosberton parish council joined the Community Speed Watch scheme (CSW) earlier this year. CSW is part of Lincolnshire Road safety partnership (LRSP). We now have 4 sites where volunteers and council members can be out raising awareness / reducing speeds / educating motorists / collecting data to help reduce the speeds on our roads / keeping people safe / letting people know that speeding through our villages isn't acceptable.
As the scheme gains momentum / knowledge of the scheme spreads the intention is to not rest on our laurels but to add more sites. We would like to thank Rowland Perry for his hard work in setting up this group / scheme within Gosberton / and surrounding villages.
Gosberton CSW can only operate to keep our roads safe because of the volunteers that put their time in. If you are interested in helping your village, and you are reliable and conscientious and would like to be part of the team then please contact the clerk who will be happy to pass your details on.
