Chair's report 2023
Gosberton Parish Council
Annual Report 2023
District Councillors, Parish Councilors, Members of the Public
Where do we start, so much has happened.
I guess we finally saw the end of restrictions with covid and had to get on with life. The village play area as needed so much attention over the years but we have finally got it up to date and brilliant to see it packed full of children all last summer. The Risegate also had a new swing and a team raising money for more equipment. The village was finished in time for the Queens Jubilee celebrations on the playing field.
We had a marquee on the playing field for the whole weekend starting with GCAR on the Thursday, Parish Council on the Friday ( Alan Jackson singing some oldies and a free lunch for the older folks of the village which included 3 nursing homes, then a hog roast and live music to Halo) A complete sell out and more. Saturday was available for the Risegate play equipment team to run a donkey derby to help raise funds for the Play equipment.Sunday was used by the Churches and Chapels in the Parish.
On September 8th at Balmoral Castle the sad news broke of The Queen’s death to which we laid a wreath and put the flag to half mast on the War Memorial.
We have had several big Planning issues to discuss, some of which will make a massive difference to the village, others have gone to appeal which we have sent information off to the Secretary of State.
Cemetery- we are getting full, there is some room for a while but surprising how quick it will fill up.
Gosberton Parish council have made a huge contribution in saving village Youth Centre holding an open meeting and getting the village joined in saving and running events in hope it can return to a Youth Club again.
We have in May the King’s Coronation this will be a smaller event but hopefully see the village join together on the Playing field for a Party in the Park with live music.
Our year wouldn’t of been successful without a team of District Councilors Simon, Henry and Jane, thankyou for your support and good luck in the forthcoming election and to my fellow Councilors thank you for helping me and dedicating your time to the Council.
Last by not least, Fran our Clerk, your work ethos and your professional approach to this Council in such a short time is astounding, I don’t think we have been in such a good position in years and look forward to the next audit.
There are two councilors standing down at the next election Cllr Thorley and Cllr Wray, I thank you for the time you have both given whether it be the cemetery or the Queen’s Jubilee it was incredible so thank you
I wish the Council good luck for the next four years.
This concludes my report for 2023
